1- Our purpose:

During a time when the entire world has come to a standstill due to the Coronavirus, we find ourselves faced with two options: we can either see the glass as half empty, accepting a feeling of hopelessness with every news brief, relaying death tolls and an increase in the number of those infected. Or we can see the glass as half full, and recognize that we have the power to positively impact the situation.

Landry BOTOKOU, a Beninese Researcher at GRESCO University (Group Research and Sociological Studies Centre West, Poitiers, France) and CEO of Etudix, currently residing in Sweden, Asia Chantal Aniwanou, an American-Beninese Management Consultant currently living in Rome, and Julie TRAN, Swedish politician of Asian origin,  decided that, rather than focusing on how their lives have been disrupted, they wanted to use their skills and capitalize on their optimism to take action. This is how a project to raise funds for those hardest hit in Benin, a country that each one of them hold dear to their hearts, came about.

For some countries, social distancing, is a question of life or death. Parents venture out into the city or village every morning to work for the meal their children will eat that night. Staying indoors, in order to keep their families safe, means forgoing what is often their only source of income, in a country where many of the social and economic measures that compensate for this loss in self-sufficiency in other countries, have not been put in place.

An interview recently conducted quoted some Beninese as stating that they would "rather contract the virus than die of hunger". And in a country where stimulus checks, a concept even Western countries still grapple with today, are far from being distributed, the consequences of our current global situation have not only been economic but are proving to be equally detrimental to the social fabric of all countries, as we see an increase in spousal abuse, burglaries, theft, etc.

Often we wonder who is going to step up to the plate and help, when that person could be us. This is why we decided to launch an international solidarity project to raise funds that will go to the African continent, and in particular, Benin, as a means of recourse during the COVID-19 pandemic.

2- Our goal:

Given the urgency of the situation, our objective is to raise 100,000 SEK or rather $10,000 in two weeks.

3- Our efforts will allow:

- 200 families in need in Benin (more than 1,000 people) to survive 1 month of confinement, without having to worry about where their next meal will come from.

- 200 sanitation kits, including masks and disinfectant products will be provided to hospital staff.

4- Strategy:

In order to identify the families who currently find themselves in the most critical condition, we will be closely working with the local NGO networks, who have already been doing an exceptional job, to assist them as they continue to accompany frontline workers and famillies, most in need.

5- Evaluation:

All purchases and the distribution of personal protective equipment, as well as food stuffs, and their accompanying receipts will be published online and available to all financial contributors.

6- Recognitions:

More than SEK 200/€ 15: Acknowledgement on Facebook

More than SEK 300/€ 25: Certificate and acknowledgement on Facebook

More than SEK 500/€ 45: Personalized video from the team, certificate and acknowledgement on Facebook
