2025 Fundraiser for Stony Point Solar Car Team

Hi folks,

I'm Scott Anderson, just one of the many parents of the Stony Point Solar Car Team Booster Club. We are working hard to coordinate raising funds for our kids to be able to build and race a completely solar powered vehicle, under the framework provided by The Solar Foundataion (link: https://www.solarcarchallenge.org/challenge/).

The picture above is from March 2025, when most of the frame & chassis was completed (and doesn't included the whole team - we're working on new pic!!). They have since finished the steering, power assembly, brakes, controls for brakes & accelerator and safety lighting (headlights, brakes, turn signals & horn). It is an amazing build process that these students get to work through, design & experience AND use/race!! In testing, the car has gotten up to 40Mph and we are starting to shift to endurance tests to see how long our solar powered battery packs can last before re-charging.

In the next month, the students will complete the car: designing the body and having a "skin" put on it, continue road testing the vehicle and prepare for racing at Texas Motor Speedway in July.

That equates to our children/students having the opportunity to be involved with: designing, programming, building, tuning and racing... but as we all know - it can't happen without money for the parts.

We are doing a crowdfunding event to augment our fundraising for the team. One of the great features of this is that _anyone_ can donate to this event through the GoFundMe portal: parents, grandparents, uncles/aunts, other family and friends.

Here is a quick list of some of the parts/equipment/supplies that you can sponsor for the team this year:

A team bucket hat for the race (25 required) - $10

76oz can of Gatorade powder for water cooler in the garage - $15

Team Polo shirt for presentations and semi-formal events at race - $25

Spare tires for race vehicle - $50 each

1 room/1 night hotel at race - $120 (4 rooms for 8 nights needed)

Lithium Iron Phosphate battery for vehicle - $290 (8 needed)

Drivers seat - $60 each (2 needed)

5-Point seat belt harness - $50 (2 needed)

Pedal assemblies for power & braking - $30 each

There is literally just short of a quarter ton of equipment that goes into this car and tons and tons of effort goes in to designing and building this vehicle. However, the hands-on knowledge that the students gain in this project is the biggest reward.
