Hello,
We are the Stone Family. I am a single mom of 3 amazing teenage girls. My oldest daughter (now 18) has had a hard journey so far in life. She has several medical conditions that make quality of life very difficult for her.
November 2016, I had major knee surgery and was out of work for 4 months. In addition to that, last weekend my wallet was stolen while holding my tax refund, rent for my home and work and all our money for living the rest of the month. We are already behind, so this has been a devistation blow to our family. It has also added an extreme amount of stress to Sydney and has a negative impact on her health. She is currently in a month long flare up and has made living a normal life impossible.
About Sydney:
After many years of looking for a doctor that would listen to my concerns that “something was wrong”, we finally found a doctor that starting helping us find out what was wrong with Sydney. At age 9 Syd had her first surgery, an Aortapexy to try and correct a breathing issue. They found a large tumor in her left Thymus that had deformed her trachea and left her with a permanent breathing issue. She then had a Nissen Fundoplication in 2010 to try and manage her vomiting disorder. Sydney has had a team of about 11 doctors that have worked together to try and manager her systems. In the last few years, we have been told that they don’t know what else to do for her and it has been very discouraging.
Thru the years, many, many, many tests have been done to determine all the different things that were always going wrong with Sydney’s body. One doctor said it was looking for a ghost. As soon as you think you know the problem, it moves somewhere else. Over the years, Sydney has had countless hospital stays (we stopped counting at 180), more test then I can remember and so many different medications. All that being said, she has the most amazing attitude and is so positive all the time and always looking for ways to help others.
At an appointment at UCSF, the doctor stated that we needed to add more joy into our lives and not just medical. To that end, I am asking for help with some of the extra’s that I can’t provide and maybe some help with getting caught up on some of the debt that medical families all seem to incur.
She has been diagnosed with the following:
P.O.T.S. (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome)
Mitochondrial Disease
CVS (Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome)
Multiple GI disorders
Gurd
Esophagitis
Abdominal Migraine
Colon Spasms
Stomach, Mouth, Esophagus Ulcers
Fatigue
Anxiety
Muscle/Pain Disorder
Migraines
Tracheomalasia
Vocal cord disorder
What she achieves in spite of the physical challenges of her body:
SCHOOL: She attends mainstream school and is a brilliant student. She works independently with her teachers and gets all her work turned in and maintains a high GPA even though she does not attend a lot of actual class time.
CHOIR: Syd is in 3 audition choirs at school and learns most of her music on her own and attends as many of the performances as her body will allow. She LOVES to sing.
THEATER: Syd volunteers at her prior middle school in the theater department helping with vocal coaching and as set crew/stage manager for 2 major productions per year that each have 9 live shows and many rehearsals.
As a family we are trying to support ourselves and make a positive impact on our friends, family and community. As mom, I work full time as a hair dresser very close to our home and schools. I also do accounting for 2 small businesses in town. Faith is what has kept us together and moving forward. I am doing my best to take care of the “must do’s” but I am falling farther and farther behind each month. We are asking for help because to be honest, the stress of Sydney’s medical expenses is too great for our family. Thank you for considering our family for a donation of your hard earned money. We truly appreciate your care and support
