Hi Everyone! So many people have reached out and asked us if we had any type of fundraiser or GoFundMe, or how they can help. After much thought, I decided this would be the best way to help us get back on the road.
We are Frank and Terrah Harmstad. We live and work in Columbia, South Carolina. More specifically, we reside in the Irmo area, your typical quiet, peaceful town. We live in a gated community near the Lake Murray Dam.
Three nights ago, my husband and I heard the sound of his SUV being stolen from in front of our home at 3 AM. We later found out that multiple cars had been broken into and one other car had been stolen from our quiet, once-safe neighborhood.
Two nights ago, around 1 AM, we have footage of my SUV being driven away from our home in the quiet of the night. We had no idea this had occurred until we woke up for our daily routines. We later found out that multiple other cars had been broken into again. Also, multiple golf carts had been compromised and our dry storage area was broken into.
We suffered not one great monetary loss, but two. We are baffled as to why they targeted us and our quiet neighborhood. This was an organized effort, well planned out, and they unfortunately got away, for now.
There are police reports and a detective assigned to the case. We are hoping for the best outcome, but from what we have heard, it doesn't look good.
We have six children that depend on us to come pick them up, to take them places... We have jobs that we have to drive to. We have lives to live. And those thieves left us with no way to do the essential things we need to do and no way to get there. One of our cars will most likely be covered by insurance, but we are not sure. But not both of them. Just one. And that is what insurance values the car at, which is not enough to replace it and all of the things Frank had in his car for work.
So we are left with a major deficit with no real way to fix it.
We typically take our children on vacation for Christmas to give them memories rather than gifts that will be forgotten about. This year, Camila, our daughter with Muscular Dystrophy, has a spinal fusion on December 20th in Charlotte. We were going to go on a vacation after she was home and recovered. This can no longer happen. Now we have to think of how we will replace not one, but two vehicles.
Thank you for considering a donation for our situation. It means so much that we have people around us who have offered to help in many ways.
