STOLEN VEHICLE - Help Miles & Sinclaire
Donation protected
The Setting:
My first best friends on the road, Miles and Sinclaire, had their Honda CRV stolen this week in broad daylight. They have been staying in Houston, TX for the last few weeks replacing the transmission on their skoolie, the same one they finished recently after a long year of building in harsh Oregon weather. Miles has been doing a lot of the electronics work himself on the side of the road outside the shop.
The Theft:
On this particular day, Miles had just returned from a trip to the store for a necessary part. He got out of the car to check the fit and grab something from inside, and when he came out he noticed the CRV was peeling out from behind the bus, with an unknown man driving. After a brief but futile foot chase, they overcame their shock and filed a police report.
The Aftermath:
Late that night Miles and Sinclaire received a call informing them that the police were in pursuit of the stolen vehicle. Not long after, they were told that the car had been crashed into a flagpole and the thief had escaped on foot. The CRV was totaled and the police deemed it illegal to drive in its condition, meaning Miles and Sinclaire were forced to pay a wrecker to remove their stolen, totaled car from the highway. To make matters worse, most of their belongings had been either stolen or tossed from the car. Unfortunately, their insurance plan did not cover theft, and because of the nature of the crash, they are now responsible for 100% of the resulting expenses.
The Response:
Miles and Sinclaire are the type of people willing to give the shirts of their backs. I can't tell you how many times they've let me borrow their car for errands, or Miles has worked on my engine, or Sinclaire has brought me groceries, all without expecting anything in return. I'm humbly asking the nomad community (and beyond) to help get them back on their feet. Hopefully we can collectively reimburse some of their expenses, so they can find a new car and resume their journey to Florida to visit family in their new bus for the first time since they hit the road in their original rig almost three years ago.
When bad things may happen to good people it's an opportunity for other good people to ease the burden and remind them that they're not alone. Any amounts are greatly appreciated by Miles and Sinclaire, and if you can't spare anything for a donation (it's rough out here!), please consider sharing among your own network.
