Stolen Identity, Stolen Life — Help Me Recover
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Brandon Hamilton. I’m a personal trainer, small business owner, and full-time science student working toward becoming a physiotherapist. I also organize community events and fundraisers, including an annual charity event that raised nearly half a million dollars for people living with HIV in Toronto.
But despite dedicating my life to helping others, I’ve been left to fight for justice alone after suffering one of the most devastating betrayals imaginable.
Over a span of about 15 years, my former roommate and best friend stole my identity and defrauded me of approximately $180,000. He used my name, Social Insurance Number, and personal documents to fraudulently collect around $43,000 in COVID-19 relief benefits (including CERB, CESB, CRB, CRSB, and CWLB) through the CRA. He also manipulated me into investing nearly $30,000 in a fake opportunity that never existed—and took out additional credit and benefits in my name, which I later discovered through mounting debt and collections.
Although he did pay rent while living with me, he took advantage of my trust, my support, and my identity—leaving me with years of financial trauma, emotional stress, and legal battles.
Even worse, he confessed to what he did, and I’ve provided that written confession along with bank records, CRA documents, and other evidence to both the police and the Canada Revenue Agency. Yet authorities have refused to act. The CRA is still forcing me to repay the money he stole under my name. The police deemed it a “civil matter.” The system continues to protect the abuser—not the victim.
I’ve already filed a civil lawsuit, and I’m determined to pursue justice. But the legal costs are high—and I’m being forced to repay money I never received.
What your donation will support:
• Legal fees for my ongoing civil lawsuit
• Administrative costs (court filing, service of documents, legal support)
• CRA repayments for COVID benefits he stole using my name
• Replacing stolen funds to restore financial stability
• Mental health support, credit rebuilding, and continued advocacy
I’ve done everything I can to recover on my own. I’ve worked hard to clear my name, rebuild my credit, and keep my business going. I’ve never stopped showing up for my clients or my community. But this is bigger than me now. I need your help to take this across the finish line.
If you believe in justice, accountability, and protecting those who try to do right by others, please consider donating or sharing this page. Every bit helps me stand up against injustice and get my life back.
Thank you for your time, compassion, and support.
