On the morning of April 23rd, we experienced something no family should have to face. I walked out to the driveway, ready to leave for work, only to find our 2021 Toyota 4Runner missing. The spot in our driveway where my wife Melissa had parked it the night before was empty. In disbelief and panic, we filed a police report and contacted our insurance company.

Just three hours later, we received a call from CHP in Susanville. Our car had been found—but it had been completely totaled. The person who stole it crashed it into multiple trees, destroying the vehicle beyond repair. What was once our reliable, safe family car is now a total loss.

The thief had also tossed out many of our personal belongings, items that held real meaning for us. Our daughters’ car seats, drawing pads, chapter books, and other cherished items were discarded like trash. It was more than just a car that was taken, it was a part of our daily life and a vessel for our memories.

We had leased the 4Runner for three years before proudly deciding to finance and fully own it. It wasn’t just a car to us—it was the result of hard work and commitment. We kept it in pristine condition, and we loved taking our two little girls on road trips to places like Zion National Park, the Redwoods, Bend, and the California coast. Knowing we’ll never take another family adventure in it breaks our hearts.

Now, we’re in a hard place, without a car and unsure how we’ll afford a down payment on something safe and reliable for our family. Our insurance helped some, but it just isn’t enough to replace what we lost.
