Hi friends and family. I'm here to ask you for your help in this heartbreaking time for my family.
A little over two weeks ago, my parents lost their home to Hurricane Ian. The storm surge reached 8 feet in some places, and my parent's home was filled with 4 feet of water. Almost nothing was salvageable (aside from a few pictures above the water line and dishes in higher cabinets). Water damage of that magnitude means total loss (the whole neighborhood of 585 homes, like my parents'.) Homeowners insurance covers damage that would have been caused by wind, but sadly doesn't cover damage caused by water *sigh*. With the house, they lost all of their belongings, including; furniture, clothing, appliances, memories, etc.
In the few days following the storm, there was little hope of rebuilding what was lost. The entire neighborhood being bulldozed seemed most likely. The thought of leaving their community, neighbors, home, and life as they knew it, has been beyond heartbreaking. The only thing left was the skeleton of the home, which was surprisingly untouched by the 120mph winds.
Hope came with the possibility of gutting the house entirely and remodeling, to the tune of $100,000+.
After considering all of the options and rallying together with their neighbors, they've decided to fully gut and attempt a remodel. This will be a long, arduous process - there will be obsticles and surprises.
But with your help, I'd like to raise enough money to replace some of the necessities. Necessities include a bed, appliances, air conditioning and heating, and furniture.
Our family would be forever grateful for your care, prayer, support and generosity.
Erin Stocco
