On September 23, 2022, Eric slipped into a diabetic coma. He was rushed to Dickinson hospital where he had to be
resuscitated twice before he was put on a ventilator and flown to Bismarck, where he went straight into surgery; they
had to amputate his left leg from the leg down. Upon removal of the leg Eric's body became infected and the infection
was moving at a pace where doctors could not gain control or stop the infection. Eric had 6 surgeries in the 2 weeks he
was in Bismarck. His torso was covered with infection and each surgery was to remove the dead fat, muscle and bone
that had become damaged by the infection.
White facing his 8th surgery in Bismarck, the doctors were not confident that they could remove the infected area
without taking Erics life. At this point he was flown to Minnesota to a hospital that specializes in Diabetes and infections
related to the disease. They had to act fast as the infection was spreading into his blood line, bones and body tissue
throughout his body. He had become septic. Once in Minnesota the doctors were able to control and then stop the
infection without having to do the additional surgery.
However, due to the multiple surgeries and the constant fight with Diabetes, Eric is healing slowly. Other then the leg,
Erics wounds from the surgeries must be cleaned and packed multiple times a day to prevent becoming re- infected and
monitored because of his diabetes. He also has to rely on a colostomy bag for the next year or so while his body heals.
Erics next stage in his journey is to learn how to walk and live without his left leg. As well as working to rebuild and gain
his muscle back throughout his body.
With all the support and prayers provided by friends, family and community Eric has still retained his love for life. Eric
is/has a heart of goal, beautiful soul, peaceful and such a loving outlook on life that he brings joy to every person he
meets. He is loved by all.
We would like to say THANK YOU for being a part of this journey with us. Money donated, events held in his
name, the texts and messages received and most importantly all the prayers. As I said before, prayers work..
witnessed the miracle myself.
With love,
The Sticka Family
