This Christmas season, you can help finish stitching the future for Maui’s next generation of costume designers and theater artists.
The Sewing Hui is launching Stitching Futures: Costume Design & Production Mentorship Program, a free, six-month, hands-on mentorship for Maui teens and young adults who dream of working in the performing arts but don’t always have access to professional training, tools, or guidance.
Thanks to generous early supporters, 75% of the program is already funded. We are now raising the final $16,000 needed to fully launch the program and provide our mentees with everything they need to succeed.
✨What Makes This Program Special
- 100% free for mentees
- Professional mentorship and apprenticeship-style training
- Real-world experience working on live Maui theater productions
- Portfolio development for college and career pathways
- All materials, tools, and supplies provided
Mentees will have the opportunity to work on costumes for the following productions:
- The Revolutionists by Maui Academy of the Performing Arts at the Naylor Theatre
- The Mousetrap by Maui OnStage at the historic ‘Īao Theater
- A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder by Maui OnStage at the historic ‘Īao Theater
In addition, we hope to give our mentees the opportunity to work on Alice in Wonderland by Alexander Academy, as well as on a production by ProArts that is currently under discussion with Executive Director Lin McEwan.
Community Support Is Already Growing
We are deeply grateful for the support already received from:
- Kosasa Foundation
- Fred Baldwin Foundation
- Maui Academy of Performing Arts
- Maui OnStage
Their belief in this program has helped us reach the 75% mark and now we’re asking the wider community to help carry this program across the finish line.
A Meaningful Holiday Gift
A donation to this campaign is more than a contribution, it’s a gift to:
Young artists gaining access to professional training
Local performing arts organizations strengthening their productions
Maui’s creative and cultural future
Your support directly funds the final $16,000 needed to support the infrastructure of the program so our mentees can focus on learning, creating, and growing without financial barriers.
How You Can Help
- Donate any amount toward the final funding goal
- Share this campaign with friends, family, and arts supporters
- Give in honor of someone as a meaningful holiday gift that gives back
With your support, we can remove financial barriers and open doors for Maui’s young creatives to learn, grow, and thrive. Together, we are investing in both emerging artists and the performing arts organizations that serve our community.
