4.5 years ago our world shattered when we lost our daughter Harper Grace at 39 weeks pregnant after years of infertility. As we held our beautiful 7lb 12oz baby girl in our arms and prepared ourselves to say goodbye, we knew life would never be the same. She changed us in ways that only she could. We were sent home from the hospital with a box of things and left to fend for ourselves. I vowed that no family should ever feel as alone as we did in those early months. On my own accord, I had to search for women of stillborn babies who had survived and gone on to thrive. We had to find our own therapist and support team to help us grieve. More than anything, we felt so alone - even with ALL the support of family and friends (who were amazing!), the thing I needed the most was a community of women who had walked this path and had restored vitality in their lives. I wasn't sure this was possible.
Grieving families are massively underserved, because grief is just not something our society talks about. Friends and family don't know what to say or do, and yet, it's a time when families need more support than ever before. StillMama is changing that.
StillMama, meaning even after death you are "still" their Mama, is a blog I began 2 years ago to provide hope and light while highlighting my journey through grief. It's time to take StillMama to the next level. This organization, which we are turning into a non-profit, will provide a safe online community for women to connect and heal. I have visions for healing retreats, Angel gifts and menthol health support for family and siblings. I see education in hospitals and reading material for every mother of a stillborn baby. There's so much work to do in such an underserved population. I truly hope you will consider supporting this exceptional cause this holiday season. If there's anything we have learned, it's that we can't do this alone. Thank you for your support!!
