We are college screenwriting students looking to create a short film that explores the relationship between a mother and son. We aim to use the beautiful landscape around us to film a character-driven drama on a hiking trail. To do this, we need your support to raise $4,000 and make our film come to life. With your help, we can acquire permits, production design items, safety equipment, film equipment, and more essential elements to tell our story. You can support our film by donating and sharing! Thank you so much for your help in advance, it is very much appreciated. :)
About the Filmmakers:
My name is Nina Lopez Riley, and I am the writer and producer of Still Life. To me, this film represents the larger body of work that I hope to create in my career. I want to create projects that allow viewers to see themselves in the characters they watch, an experience that can make them feel infinitely less alone. Still Life accomplishes just that. Growing up in a single-mother household, I see myself in the dedication that our main character has for his mother. I hope every supporter of this film can find a piece of themselves in our project.
My name is Jadon Sand, and I’m the co-writer and director of Still Life. I plan to tell this story the way I tell all of my stories: by bringing out the magic in the mundane. This hike is transformative and dramatic, but also beautiful and emotional. Growing up in a family of five, I have felt a lot of the same pressures our main character feels in the short. I hope others will find truth in these characters and this story in the same way I have.
Still Life Synopsis:
Still Life is the story of a single mother who takes her oldest son on a hike to fulfill his lifelong dream of photographing nature. For him, the hike signifies his one chance to experience something extraordinary. For her, the hike is her opportunity to apologize for the responsibility that has weighed him down his entire life. Their strong-headed personalities, fear of the future, and undying love for each other make the journey of the hike a path that leads far past the end of the trail.
