Still dealing with my amputation
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Monika. I went through an amputation surgery in May, 2019 after getting an infection on my right foot that didn't respond to antibiotics. After turning septic, I found myself needing a below the knee (BKA). I eventually healed and received a prothesis which made mobility easier, obviously. One would think that would be most of the battle, but it's not. I have had several inpatient hospitalizations for other infections from the prothesis rubbing, a blood transfusion due to anemia, uncontrollable diabetes that is affected by these ongoing infections and other medical problems that I continue to try get a handle on. I truly believed that one day I would be able to return to work, but realistically I cannot. I am trying to get on Social Security Disability but that is another challenge all together. Because of the pandemic, offices have been closed (opening in April?) and has slowed this process to a crawl. My family has helped out financially in the past, but are no longer. When I did work, I enjoyed a career in social work specifically working with the indigent SMI (seriously mentally ill) population of Maricopa County. I worked many years helping others live better lives and assisting them as best as I could with what little services were available. I now find myself needing help. Fortunately I know how to advocate for myself and I am educated on the programs out there that can help. Unfortunately, since I am not able to work and the disability process is slow, money is the main issue. Rent has gone up by almost 30% and as everyone knows our economy is in the toilet. I know many of you are dealing with high gas prices, increased food costs etc. I never thought I would reach out and ask this of anyone...But if you are in a position to help me financially with whatever you can spare, I would be forever grateful. Thank you for reading my story...
