Heather, our wonderful friend, was recently diagnosed with lymphoma. She had to start treatment urgently on August 16th. A biopsy showed that she has mediastinal B-cell lymphoma, a rare type of fast-growing cancer that tends to affect young, healthy adults.

Those of you who know Heather know that she is exceptional. Her exuberant attitude attracts other people and radiates hope to her patients. She is a generous and extremely hard-working individual. Heather just started her 3rd year of residency and has plans to become a pediatric ophthalmologist. Although she will be taking a break from residency to complete treatment for the lymphoma, we know her future patients will be incredibly lucky.

Her current treatment plan will consist of 6 to 8 cycles of chemotherapy, each lasting 3 weeks. Heather will have to be admitted to the hospital for at least 5 days with each cycle. She will also have periods of time when her immune system is weak and will be dealing with side effects from the chemotherapy.

Many of you who don't live in Iowa City have expressed that you would like to help support Heather during this difficult time. While you can't be here in person, your contributions can help go towards the following:

- Medical supplies
