Hi my name is Debora and setting this up this up on behalf of Sticky Torrens with the help and support from his many friends and daughter Christina
FUNDRAISER FOR LOCAL LEGEND NEVIN “STICKY” TORRENS
On the early evening of Thursday 12th February 2026, tragedy struck in Ballymoney.
An air ambulance, four fire engines, and multiple police units were dispatched to the home of Nevin “Sticky” Torrens after a severe fire broke out and rapidly consumed the property.
By the time emergency services arrived, the blaze was already well‑established. In a moment driven by pure instinct and love, Sticky attempted to re‑enter his burning home to rescue his beloved dog. Despite urgent warnings from firefighters, police, and neighbours, he pushed forward — suffering burns and prolonged smoke inhalation. He was airlifted to hospital where is he being kept sedated while he recovers from the affects of the smoke.
At first, everyone feared the worst for his dog. But once the fire was finally extinguished, firefighters discovered the dog alive, hiding beneath what remained of a bed. Shaken and co, but safe — the little companion Sticky risked everything for survived. He is now being cared for while Sticky recovers in hospital.
The house itself has been left completely destroyed. Sticky has lost his home, his belongings, and his sense of security and independence - everything in a single night.

A UNIQUE LOCAL CHARACTER — RESILIENT, TALENTED, AND ALWAYS HELPING OTHERS
Sticky is one of Ballymoney’s most recognisable and well‑loved characters — a man whose life story is marked by hardship, resilience, and remarkable strength.
From a very young age, he faced tragedies that would have broken many people. But Sticky didn’t just survive them — he rose above them. Through grit, determination, and sheer hard work, he built a life full of colour, skill, and achievement.
He became:
• A passionate hot rod and rally racer, competing with pride winning the Irish Open twice and representing NI in the UK.
• A successful hair salon owner, known for his talent, humour, and the friendships he built with staff and clients
• He ran a music production company Massive Productions working with artists including Van Morrison, Kris Kristofferson, Chrissie Hynde, The Cranberries, Ian Drury and the Blockheads and Elvis Costello.
• A dedicated greyhound trainer, producing multiple racing champions
Now he has his much loved racing pigeons.
Sticky’s greatest love has always been animals, treating every creature with gentleness and compassion.
Sticky has helped a lot of people, never expecting anything in return.
We would like to get him a static caravan, a few clothes and basics to get him back on his feet.
If he’s helped you at anytime ? raced alongside you ? fixed your car,? Been your taxi? Helped with your animals ? driven you mad or made you laugh?… please give any donation no matter how small it will would be so appreciated.
Thank you ,
