Our dear friend Hannah Montoya is in need of support. If you’ve ever met Hannah, you’d know that she would never ask for help for herself, but she would be the first person to show up for someone else.
Hannah is a gay woman of color who is supporting her wife, Gentijana. Gentijana has epilepsy and other continuous health issues. Hannah and Gentijana are some of the kindest people we know.
Earlier this year, Hannah went to the ER with severe abdominal pain. Doctors discovered two large ovarian cysts, each around 9cm in diameter, and scheduled a surgery to remove them on Friday June 9th.
After surgery, she was sent home the same day.
Through the night and the following day, Hannah’s health continued to decline. She was passing out from pain, and her vomit was black. After calling the hospital several times for guidance, they finally suggested she go back to the ER on Saturday night. She has been in the hospital under constant care since June 10th.
Hannah continued to suffer severe pain and trouble breathing. After many tests, it was discovered that her small intestine was accidentally punctured, among other injuries, during the initial surgery. A specialist determined that this complication required another surgery.
She is slowly recovering from her second surgery. The specialist estimates her hospital stay may be another week. After that, Hannah will be unable to work for 3-4 more weeks as she heals at home.
As of June 20th, the doctors suspect she may have an abscess. She will get a CT scan tomorrow.
Hannah is under-insured and her household will have no income for several weeks. We estimate Hannah’s expenses to be around $5000. Please consider giving what you are able to in support of Hannah.
