Urgent: Help Basil feed his besieged family in Gaza
Donation protected

Hello, I created this campaign to raise money to evacuate my family from Gaza.
I am Basel, a 24-year-old young man from Gaza City, specifically from Nuseirat camp. I spent my childhood in a refugee camp. I have always dreamed of traveling to fulfill my dreams and complete my education, and also to help my family from poverty and change their situation.
I left Gaza in 2022. I suffered a lot in my exile from fatigue and pain in the hope of a better and more stable life and a bright future, where there is no occupation or wars.
After a long journey, I arrived in Belgium and now live in Namur.
I have a large family consisting of my mother, father, six brothers, two sisters, and we have two cats.
Since the beginning of the war, life has become unimaginably painful.
Also, since the beginning of the war, my family has been displaced several times, to several places in the southern Gaza Strip. My family left our home with what they could only put together, and they were not sure if they would return home, or if our home would still be there.
My grandmother witnessed the Nakba in 1948 when she was young, and she did not want to leave the house, but we insisted on taking her with us when we fled to Khan Younis. It was her second Nakba.
My family lost my grandmother Zahia, who was 97 years old. She suffered from shortness of breath and lung problems, due to inhaling toxic gases from the bombing and phosphorous bombs. My grandmother was our greatest loss, and we still need her, but she is now resting in peace in Khan Younis.
The first displacement was to my uncle's house, then they were displaced to the city of Khan Younis, then they returned to Nuseirat, then they were displaced to the city of Zawaida, then they returned to Nuseirat, then they were displaced to Al-Maghazi camp, then they returned to Nuseirat.
On 24/1/2024, when the family was in Khan Younis, suddenly the city of Khan Younis was completely besieged, and contact with them was cut off. These were the most difficult moments for them and me, but they escaped with difficulty from the city under heavy shelling, and then returned to Nuseirat.
On 29 February this year, our house was severely damaged by shelling, and my family still lives there, although the house is no longer habitable, they have no other place to go. The roof is full of holes, the weather is very cold, and the place is in an active war zone. There is almost no food in the area.
The family also suffered from skin diseases while living in tents, and my brother Ibrahim contracted hepatitis from drinking contaminated water.
Everyone in this family has dreams, and their simplest dream is to live in a safe environment that provides them with a better future, but the situation in Gaza does not help with success and happiness, especially now that everything is destroyed and people are suffering from shock. The danger is still there, and the war does not seem to be coming to an end.
My sister Hanin finished her postgraduate studies, and all she had to do was complete her thesis, but the university was demolished.
My brother Nabil graduated from university, majoring in pharmacy, he is a hardworking person and excels in his field. His simple dream was to get a job and support his family. Nabil did not get a job - because unemployment in Gaza is very high, and the economy is in a miserable state.
As for my brother Ibrahim, he obtained a diploma in electronic engineering from the Gaza Training College - UNRWA and his dream is to complete his education.
As for my brother Haitham, he was supposed to finish his high school studies and join the university, but the war prevented him from obtaining his most basic right, which is education.
As for my sister Hiba and my brothers Samir and Mahmoud, they were studying in UNRWA schools, as the war prevented them from completing their education, as most of the schools were bombed and destroyed, and the children are in their second year without education, which puts their entire future at risk.
Our plan is to evacuate the family as soon as possible, to ensure:
1) My brother Ibrahim's recovery.
2) Evacuate two family members. After that, we will evacuate the rest of the family, all of them, as soon as possible. We will not leave anyone behind and we will do whatever it takes to make this happen. Much of this will be made possible through your donations. Unfortunately, the costs of evacuation are incredibly high with prices changing daily. These costs are set by Egyptian officials and determine how long many Palestinians will survive.
Any amount, I repeat: any amount, will help evacuate my family. Their fate is in your hands.
I am begging you with every fiber of my being to donate to our fundraising campaign and make this possible.
Donate whatever you can whenever you can, spread the word, share this in any group chat you see, tell everyone you know, because any amount of money will get them to safety.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who is willing to contribute and support.
We thank you for every word you spread, every cent you donate, and every link you share. Thank you.
Let's work to get them to safety. Please donate. God bless you.
