I am the Ecologist and Agroforestry trainer for the Stewards for Nature team in Kebar, West Papua. We are starting a drive to help the project expand its work in reforestation using a Gofundme campaign to raise $9000 AUD or more.

We plant to replant 1000 Ironwood trees, also known as Merbau or Kwila, a valuable tropical hardwood that is being overharvested by demand in Wealthy countries. Much of this wood is illegally harvested and traded. The loss of the Ironwood resources has a huge impact on the lives of common Papuan people as well as a major impact on the forests.

What we offer is a concrete Dollars for action commitment, we are already hard at work replanting trees and enjoy enormous community support and yet there are gaps in our funding that make providing basic needs difficult for our teams. Every cent, other than the fees taken by Gofundme and the Banks, will go towards supporting the teams to plant trees.

We hope you can donate to our campaign and we roughly estimate the price of sponsoring 1 tree, to produce, plant and maintain through establishment is $3 AUD, so we set the initial target for 1000 trees whcih we have ready to go.

We do have the capacity to exceed targets as we continue to create more trees and the capacity for replanting is only limited by the funding we can access.
