Hi, I'm Stevie Lous favourite Aunty Suzie and I'm raising money to help her and her hubby financially through Stevies final battle with cancer.
For those who don't know Stevie, or her husband Lee, Stevie was first diagnosed with cancer as a young girl barely starting junior school. Stevie was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, an aggressive and uncommon form in childhood. Stevie was seriously ill with the treatment but eventually kicked its ass and made a great recovery but it came back a few years later when she'd not long started senior school only this time the outlook wasnt great and the only cure was a bone marrow transplant. Again Stevie beat amazingly bad odds and cancer was kicked to the long grass and she had some amazing wild teen and young adult years before finally meeting her soul mate Lee while both working for Asda.
Their carefree happiness wasnt to last long until Stevie had a thyroid problem and after its removal we found out that cancer had reared its head again. The doctor had noticed something on her scans that made him think not only had cancer been in her thyroid but he thought he saw a tumour in her breast tissue. At the grand old age of 27 the breast care consultant was pretty blase about it all and dismissed her saying probably just lumpy boobs and by the time they took it seriously it had gone to stage 4 and despite chemo therapy, radiotherapy a double mastectomy and lynph node removals we knew that the cancer had escaped and would be back again at some point.
Spring forward just a few years and February 2024 Stevie had to tell us all that it was back but this time in her liver and although she was going to fight it with chemo this time it was palliative not curative. As she had on every occasion before Stevie has fought but she had hers and Lees wedding in December as her goal and she made Lee and all of us so proud when despite chemo related issues she walked unaided to his side and became Mrs Cook.
What they didn't tell anyone though was the cancer had spread even further and was now also in her lungs, spine & ribcage. The chemo was changed on January and was even harder on Stevies body so much so when she went for chemo a few weeks ago the nurses felt she was too ill and subsequent scans show its now in her brain and is rapidly progressing. Stevie has gone in less than 3 months from walking unaided to being unable to even move her own body and is reliant on care for everything. She is back home where she wants to be and is being cared for there by Lee, her mum and a small group of trusted friends and St Peters Hospice at home team.
Lee has been by her side all the way through and cares for her 24/7 however his employer is only prepared to pay him 10 days sick pay (now gone) and has put him on government sick pay (roughly £110 a week) which wont even cover their rent let alone the increased costs to care for someone this ill.
They are both going through such a horrendous time that the last thing Lee should be worrying about is how he's going to cover their living costs for whatever time Stevie has left. I've been asked by so many friends and family what they can do to help so please if possible donate to this gofund me even if all you can afford is a few pence. Any funds donated will be going directly to Lee to pay whatever bills he needs to whether that be rent, electric, food or for her final wishes.
Many thanks.
Updated 7th March to add that Stevie has slipped away peacefully earlier today with her Lee and her family surrounding her with love.
Lee and all of us have been greatly touched by just how many people have taken the time to show their support both here and with the many well wishes we have received.
Our lives were blessed when Stevie was born and blessed even further when she met Lee, to say we are devastated now is an understatement.
Thank you all once again.
