To all the friends of Steve Walt,
I come to you all in a very difficult time in Steve's life.
We are old friends from growing up in Old Greenwich, and going to school together all through jr. high and high school ......all those years ago back in the 70's.
We had stayed in touch for a while after high school, but have slowly lost touch over the last 10 yrs or so. He just contacted me last month, so it has been good to reconnect with him. He started sharing with me the unfortunate events that have led up to his current condition.
So, in discussing what has been going on in his life, I spoke with a close friend of mine, who shared with me about the possibility of opening this account from "GoFundMe" , which has helped so many people in these kinds of difficult situations.
Here is some of Steve's history, and the situation he now finds himself in.
About 25 years ago, Steve moved to CA where he still lives, down in the San Diego area. Since moving there, he has worked for a brochure firm, which another old friend, Dave Jiranek, had set him up with. He worked in the warehouse, and also drove a delivery truck to deliver and set up brochure stands all around the southern CA area. He had starterd to gain weight, and as all we over 50'ers have come to see........it ain't so easy to work it off, like we used to, so he started to go on some weight loss programs.
Over a yr. ago, he met somebody who was working with one of these programs, and Steve started to use their product. After 5 weeks of using this supplement, he started to have some serious side effects. He stopped taking the product, but the effects did not stop. He was having cramping, dizziness, weakness, stomach and intestinal problems. In time, at work, he collapsed, and was taken to the hospital. He eventually was laid off, as he couldn't function, or work anymore. He has been diagnosed with diverticulitis and a spastic colon, and has been losing weight at an unhealthy rate. He has been out of work for about 3 months now, and has no medical insurance, disability, or workmans compensation to cover any of his medical bills, and lost wages. He has almost depleted his savings, and is looking at the dire possibility of being asked to leave his apartment, as he is no longer able to pay his rent. His landlord is being quite patient and understanding about his situation, but nonetheless, is not wild about it. He needs more testing, but the medical bills have become way over his head, as you can well imagine.
So, I am trying to help Steve, by setting this fund up for him, in hopes to raise awareness of his situation, and try to releive the burden and anxiety that come with this kind of misfortune.
Feel free to contact Steve or I for any questions or help you may be able to offer us. He certainly could use some good legal advice, etc.
This "GoFundMe" website enables anyone who wants to help Steve, to donate in a conveniant and simple way.
Thank you so much for checking this out, and especially for helping out, if you can.
