Steve's Mission to Memorialize Revolutionary Heroes

Tax deductible
Greetings, I am Steve Barlow, President of the Mahoning Valley Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. We are a non-profit organization that works diligently to keep the memories alive of those who fought in this war and gave us this great nation. We also work at making all Americans aware of these patriots’ unselfish sacrifices through living history events, memorials services, grave markings and gravesite restorations.
I recently learned that 157 American Revolutionary War Patriots are buried in Columbiana County and there is not a monument to honor these patriots. We have monuments for all the other wars, as it should be, but we have forgotten these patriots. I began to think about of all the hundreds and thousands of dollars spent by the surrounding communities and patriotic Americans for our annual 4th of July celebration. Some individuals spend hundreds of dollars on fireworks and family get togethers, as they all should, but on July 5th all is forgotten and little was spoken of the founding fathers and our brave American Revolutionary War patriots.
I would like to begin a community effort to raise enough money to honor these 157 patriots buried in Columbiana County with a monument which would be the first its kind in our county. I am hoping to raise enough contributions to create a 30” x 36” polished black granite monument with all the names of the patriots listed on it. Depending on where the monument will be placed, we may also need a 16” x 60” footer for the monument’s placement.
The cost of this monument project: $5000 for memorial / $640 for footer
We also have 5 patriots buried at Long’s Run Church in Calcutta and our SAR Chapter would like to arrange a grave marking ceremony with 6” x 6” polished granite grave markers mounted to cement pavers and imbedded in the ground by each patriot’s grave.
The cost of the patriots’ grave markers: At least $50/gravesite
As you can see, we need a lot of help to bring our projects to fruition. Previous donations to our chapter have gone to similar projects in Mahoning and Trumbull counties and I am trying to do something for Columbiana County.
We would like to honor the 157 Revolutionary War Patriots that did not only help found our great nation, but also Columbiana County. They have earned our respect and we should honor them for it.
Any tax- deductible contributions would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be made payable to the:
