Hello all My name is Elyse Nave and I am coming to you all looking for support for my husband Steven Nave through this difficult road he and our family have ahead of us on the fight against stomach cancer. After losing his father, uncle, and two cousins in a short time frame, my husband had testing done to test for the cdh1 gene, a gene that the family
members we lost all had and is connected to an aggressive stomach cancer, and unfortunately he came back positive for that gene. From there we sat down with an oncologist who said the next steps were to get an endoscopy and stomach biopsy done to see if they find any signs of cancer. Unfortunately we got the news recently that all of my husbands biopsies did in fact come back positive, which as you can imagine was a lot to take in, but my husband is a determined and stubborn man who’s response was, “what’s the next step”. From there he was scheduled with a surgeon immediately, who walked us through the steps to having his stomach removed and what all that would entail surgery, recovery, life changes, and steps post surgery. We also met with a nutritionist who walked us through all life changes that he will
have to make post surgery, and for the rest of his life.
Steve’s stomach removal surgery is scheduled for October 23rd up in Chicago. There will be other testing that has to be done prior to his surgery, which will also all take place in Chicago. He is going to be off of work at least 6-8 weeks after surgery, and there is going to be a ton of healing that needs to be done. All check ups and follow up
care post surgery will also be done in Chicago. After his stomach is removed it will be sent off to pathology to be further dissected and biopsied to give us more answers. He will also be having a CT scan done to see if any other areas of concern are seen prior to surgery.
My husband, Steve, is not only the love of my life but the hardest working man I know, the father to our seven children, and the rock of our family. He is a husband, father, son, brother, and friend to so many. This journey to fight against stomach cancer is going to be a long and difficult one, but in this time I pray that we can all get together and show him just how much support he has through all of this.
With all of these appointments and procedures have come many missed days of work for both of us, many trips back and forth to Chicago, and hotels to stay up there for procedures, and unfortunately there are many more to come. Not only will Steve have to be off of work for at least 6-8 weeks after surgery, but I will also be missing a lot of work to be with him and having a lot of driving back and forth and hotel stays, as we do have children that will
not only be worried, but be needing me as well. Not to mention all of
the bills of just our every day life, rent, utilities, groceries, and medical bills piling up. If you could donate any amount to help ease the stress of these costs it would be so much appreciated. I can’t even put into words how much it would help to be able focus on my husbands healing and my family, and not be constantly worried about how I’m going to cover household bills for two months, hotel stays, gas and food money, or pay all of his medical bills that come with all of this. Again, any amount helps! Let’s show Steve just how loved and supported he is through this journey!
