Steve's Eye Fund

I'm Steve Hanson's wife, Rose. For any of you who know Steve, you know that he is one of the kindest, most sincere person you  will ever meet. He has struggled with his eyes for most of his life; many of you may not know this, as he seldom complains. Over the last 30 years he has had three corneal transplants; two on one of his eyes and one on the other, as well as additionnal procedures over the years.

For the last several years he has had additional problems as a result of the transplants, including headaches, dizziness,  and eye fatigue, in addition to difficulty with depth perception and working on concentrated tasks.

Simply put, the problem is  the large difference between the vision in his two eyes, which makes it extremely difficult for the two eyes to work together.  The remedy is fairly simple; laser surgery in each eye to lessen the vision disparity between the two eyes, making it possible for the eyes to work together fluidly.  The doctor feels confident that the procedure will be successful and I know that Steve's quality of life will be improved immensely once his vision is improved. The roadblock? The Insurance companies (yes, companies, as we each have changed jobs and each insurance company is the same) view this as an elective procedure, even after many letters and pleas from Steve's doctor stating that this is a common and routine procedure for patients who have had corneal transplants.

The funds raised from this campaign will pay for these surgeries. We are anxious to have these surgeries as soon as possible. I chose the color blue for this campaign because Steve's eyes are a beautiful shade of blue.
