Steve’s battle with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
Donation protected
On June 2nd, 2020, at the young age of 40, Steve Chmura was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. The cancer is a slowly progressing and uncommon type of blood-cell cancer that begins in the bone marrow. He had been battling extreme fatigue and stomach pains for several months. We now found out further that the stomach pains are due to an enlarged spleen. The fatigue was due to a dangerously low Hemoglobin count and a high white blood cell count. He was admitted to Mayo Clinic in La Crosse, WI for 3 days, where he received 5 bags of blood to raise his Hemoglobin. He had a bone marrow biopsy on June 15th. Steve is a father of one son named Ethan who is about to start his freshmen year at Sparta High School. Ethan has been a big help to his dad during this difficult time. Steve will need Chemotherapy treatment medication, which can be expensive. At this current time, Steve is unable to work. Anything you can donate would be a huge help for Steve and his family with medical and living expenses. Even if you can’t donate, please share. Thank you so much for taking the time to read his story.
