Steven Down Under Sports

Steven Yutzy, a honor senior at Northern Garrett High School in Western MD, has been selected to represent the State of Maryland in competitive wrestling with Down Under Sports in Australia, who employ full-time recruiting coordinators and coaches that research deserving athletes to invite for this elite program. This truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Steven!
Steven has been wrestling since he was 6 yrs old and always being small in stature , he has faced and overcome the negativity and doubt conveyed by many over the years and this has become his driving force, plus, "Its nice to have your arm held up", he adds. Steven, now 18, competes in the 120 lb weight class and trains 6 days/wk.
Steven has been to MD State finals 3 times, with a runner up win in 2017. He also placed first in both the Bi-County and West Regional tournaments in 2017 as well. Most recently he competed for a charity event, The Mason-Dixon Border Brawl on the MD/WV team, where he had 1 of only 2 pins against PA. All proceeds were donated to Cancer research.
He has an impressive record of 44 - 3 for the current season and an all time record of 113 - 15.
Steven works at a daycare where he teaches elementary aged school children, the importance of physical activity. He also tutors and helps with homework. His employer adds, "All the kids look up to him and get excited when he comes through the door."

Student athletes ages 14-19 are eligible to participate. Down Under Sports was formed in 1989 to bridge cultural and educational gaps with people of other lands. Specializing in the land down under, we have shared Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii with tens of thousands of American Youth The goal is to use the common language of sports to bridge the continents.
While on the trip, participants will be supervised by Coaches, Chaperones, Tour Escorts, and Down Under Sports Staff.
