Hello, I am Karan Bir Singh Sandhu and we are trying to raise money for my friend Halain Irakunda so he can get treatment for Stevens-Johnson Syndrome.
In this video, we are providing a brief overview of the medical illness and the following is written in Halain's words.
I have given information on how I got affected with this condition and how it has led me to my current situation in the attached video.
It all started from a medicinal drug reaction (Carbamazepine) in late 2007 and eventually the condition got worse. The treatment was unaffordable, so me and my family had to give up to the circumstances. After giving up to the medical condition, I had to continue with the life and had to learn to overcome the condition. Luckily, we were helped by JRS(Jesuit Refugee Services) which comes under UNHCR(United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) to pursue my schooling.
In 2016, I moved to Canada and I started my education in Social Services from Mohawk College, Hamilton, Ontario. I regained my hope to bring back my sight when I was sent to the Mount Senai Hospital located in Toronto, Ontario. I was told that a specialty contact lens treatment would be tried to help with the medical condition. A surgery would be conducted if the specialty contact lens treatment does not work.
The estimated cost for the specialty contact lens treatment is approximately $4000.00, which is not covered by the Ontario Health Program. To begin with this treatment I would need as much assistance possible and I will be really thankful for it.
The appointment to see the specialist has been already booked for 01/October/2021, and If I am unable to raise money for the treatment, it will be cancelled and will have to be rebooked.
I will be really thankful for any contributions that you can make and I am hopeful that I will be able to get this treatment.
Regards,
Halain Irakunda
