My dad has always been the kind of man who shows strength in the face of adversity. He’s my dad—a devoted father, a proud grandfather to my two young sons, and someone who’s always led with kindness, resilience, and courage. He’s adventurous, hard-working, and generous—the kind of person who shows up for others without hesitation.

Steven was recently diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma on his tongue—a painful and aggressive form of cancer. We’re still waiting on further test results to determine whether it has spread/ how aggressive it is, but treatment is certain. Whether it’s chemotherapy, surgery, or both, he will need to take time off work to fight this disease with everything he has. Not only that, my dad may not have insurance coverage. Treatment for this cancer can range from anywhere from 100,000 to 500,000 dollars without insurance. We’re hoping to find some alternatives but know this will not be easy for our family.

Hearing this diagnosis was the worst news any child could receive about a parent. My heart is broken, and I’m scared. I want him here for as long as I can have him. I want him to keep making memories with my sons, to keep sharing his stories, his laughter, and his love. And I want him to at least be comfortable while he’s trying to recover.
