Steven LaRock's Fearless Fight

Donation protected

My name is Summer Lucas, I am Steven LaRock's little sister. My brother Steve has been facing serious medical issues for the past few months. Steven was born with NF1 ( neurofibroma type 1),it ran on our dads side of the family. NF1 causes tumors to form both externally and internally. Most of the time those tumors are benign and only have to be removed if they become to large and painful or wrap around anything internally. Steve ended up having one form inside his left bicep, that caused him high levels of pain and was beginning to cause mobility issues for him. Steve had the tumor removed out of his bicep in November of 2020. Unfortunately, the biopsy on that tumor showed MPNST ( Malignant  Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor). Steve took the news extremely hard ( our sister Lauren had passed from cancer in 02) and shut down from the world for awhile, which I cant say I blame him. In the beginning of February, Steve had reached out to the family and told us about the cancer and that the tumor in his left bicep began to grow back. Immediately, we got Steve an appointment with the oncologist, and he would be seen within a couple days and we would find out the course of treatment for him.

Steve was having a difficult time breathing for a few weeks before the appointment, so the day of the oncology appointment, that was extremely important to find out what was going on. Steve was admitted into the hospital right from that appointment. Turned out, Steve had a pulmonary embolism.  They also did an ultra sound on the left bicep where the tumor was growing back and found multiple clots, which put Steve into the ICU.

Steve went through more than his fair share of tests, guesses, and continued to get worse. The tumors had metastasized through Steve's body, clots wouldn't break up either. The hospital didn't know what to do about Steve's case. He was high risk in so many different aspects, but nobody would "bite the bullet" as one of his doctors told me.

Steve was admitted into the hospital February 8th, 2021 and was discharged March 25, 2021. With a breaking heart writing this, Steven was discharged to come home with hospice.  Steve has been home now for 3 weeks today.  To this day, we still don't know what is actually going to take my brother away from us, whether it is his NF1 or cancer, or the clots.

For those of you who don't know Steve (30), he is truly the kindest person I know. Steve would and did give anything and everything to anyone he could help. He has one heck of a sense of humor, and always enjoyed the little things in life, never expecting or asking for much.  He is a free spirit in a way, just kind of went where ever the wind blew. Steve has always been my other half our entire lives, so it is truly  devastating to watch him go through anything he has and continues to go through.

We are reaching out for donations to cover medical things we need to help Steve while he is still here with us, and for after Steve leaves us. Steve hardly asked for help, so it's so hard to ask for help too, but we need help to get him what he needs and so Steve gets what he truly deserves.

During Steve's entire time being ill, he had one quote that I would like to share with you all, this kept Steve pushing through not only the hard decisions but also the hardest days.

“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that! "

We are all still praying for a huge miracle for Steve, but also remembering everyday he is still here with us is also little miracles happening.

So on behalf of Steve and the family, we thank you for your support.
