Steven Wayne Holmes, 52 of Cumming, GA (Steve, “Holmie”) passed away on October 1, 2022 in the presence of his fiancé, Leslie Mitchell and his mother, Teresa James-Tharp. Steven succumbed to cancer after battling a brave and courageous fight with cutaneous t-cell lymphoma (CTCL) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).
Born to Teresa and the late Kaven Wayne Holmes (Glenda Holmes), Steven was the second of three children: John Michael Holmes and Kevin Lyn Holmes (Ashley Kennedy Holmes). He also had one step-brother, James Keen. He is survived by his fiancé, mother, step-mother, brothers, step-brother and his pride and joy – daughters, Candler, Emma, and Ellie Holmes. He also had three bonus daughters – Hallie, Kaysie, and Lexi McGuinness. Steven will also be missed and loved by his nephew Colton Holmes (John) and nieces Kennedy Holmes Gardner (Logan) and Kathryn Holmes (Kevin and Ashely Holmes).
Steven was born in Kennett, MO and grew up in Batesville, AR. Upon graduating from Batesville High School (’88), he attended Arkansas State University where he earned a degree in computer science. After securing his degree, he moved to the Atlanta area where he worked for numerous corporations. Steven lived in the Cumming area the past 20 years and most recently worked at Synergy Solutions where he served as Director of Service.
Steven gained his love for sports and outdoors growing up in his home state of Arkansas which he was immensely proud of. If his weekends in GA weren’t spent fishing, golfing, or hunting at his deer camp in Eatonton, GA; he was watching Razorback football “calling the hogs” or helping friends “cheer on the dawgs” – his second favorite team. Steve’s other favorite way to spend his time was playing cornhole on Thursday nights with the ATL Cornhole League. He loved his Mexican dinner nights with his “friend crew” and enjoyed taking his girls shopping, dining, ice cream eating, and going for car rides – particularly when they could escape to the Dawson Forest. He was a loyal friend and always had anything you needed in his truck. He was ready to lend a hand with fixing a car, installing a microwave, rewiring a light switch, or cleaning a boat.
