Steven Garcia - a beloved son, brother, nephew, grandson, cousin, and friend has suffered from a brain avm rupture.
Brain AVM (arteriovenous malformation): An abnormal connection between arteries and veins, usually in the brain or spine.
Arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is usually present at birth. The arteries and veins in an arteriovenous malformation can rupture, causing bleeding into the brain or spinal cord.
Symptoms can include headaches and seizures.
Surgery is the most common treatment for brain AVMs. In some cases, a catheter or radiation may be used to close off vessels. Medication may be used to treat headaches and seizures.
This rare condition was through no fault of his own. He was born with this terrifying affliction. Due to this unexpected tragedy, Steven had to undergo open brain surgery in order to drain the blood, and patch up the severed artery. Post surgery, Steven suffered cardiac arrest and was revived, but only to leave him in a current state of a coma. In order to perform the next surgery, we need our power, positivity, prayers, and his will to wake up.
His passion for creating clothes and the love to collaborate with others to extend artistic capability has shown through his work. With his clothing brand, Riot, it is his duty to bring together his favorite local artists, but also to extend further into the music world. He has worked with a handful of friends and creatives within the Whittier area, but it is one of his most proudest moments when an inspiring hip hop group, The Pharcyde, supported his brand as they performed during an international tour. It is undeniable that Steven's passion and bright light is contagious and we need him to continue his journey to spark our peers furthermore. His genuine kindness, humor, competitiveness, passions, love, and willingness prevails.
This will be a long hauled journey, a marathon, but as a community, we are obligated to move with the family. While we wait for Steven to wake up, we must come together for the Garcia family to gather funds and put forth into these crucial surgeries and upcoming obstacles. At this very moment, we must keep our heads up, strive for positivity, and hope for the best. Time is our only determination.
