Hello Pawpurr's friends and family,

Unfortunately, there is an issue with Fleet's life insurance and his family is facing a heavy financial burden to host his viewing and funeral this weekend (https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/athensmessenger/obituary.aspx?n=steve-vanfleet&pid=197958247&fhid=16379). There are other financial factors as well - Covid has had a major negative impact on profits over the last year and the joint ownership of the business has added complexity to the current situation.

For these reasons, I've created a new GoFundMe and am asking for your help again. Any donation you can provide to help Spencer, Wendy and the family with funeral costs would be greatly appreciated. My hope is that helping with some of the funeral costs will give them some relief to properly celebrate Fleet's life and give us all some hope for what lies ahead.

Steven VanFleet “Fleet” was many things to many people: a father, Vietnam Veteran, friend, boss, brother, role model, Buckeye Fan. He was kind, loving, hardworking, the life of the party, but above all he was selfless. Whether you were a friend, employee, family or bar patron, he always went out of his way to make sure you were taken care of, never asking for anything in return. His legacy will live on forever and we are all struggling with the loss of this great man. Many of you are familiar with his son, Spencer, and his mom, Wendy. I can say they are doing the best that they can right now. We all know the Pawpurr's family can have a big impact and I hope we can pull together again now. Let’s give Fleet the celebration he deserves, he would do the same for us.

For those who I have not met, my father, Steve Meadows, was Fleet's best friend and the handyman at Pawpurr's for many years. I worked at Pawpurr's from 2014 – 2018 and grew up with Spencer. As a boy I remember how cool it felt to go to Fleet’s with my dad for his staff parties or come into Pawpurr’s Happy Hour and watch Dad and Fleet run the table. I am sure we all have memories that we will cherish forever. Fleet will truly be missed and Court Street will never be the same.

Thank you so much,
