Steven Berry Support Fund

On Christmas Eve night, Anne Berry’s husband of 26 years Steven woke up complaining of severe pain in his head. Steven got up from bed and stumbled into the bathroom. At this time, Steven began to vomit profusely and blacked out on the bathroom floor. During this episode he began to have a seizure. Anne immediately contacted 911 and Steven was transported to Metro Health Medical Center Hospital.

Steven was immediately rushed to have a CT scan which indicated that his brain was bleeding and that he would need emergency surgery to remove a portion of his skull to allow his brain to swell. The first 24 hours of this surgery were the most critical.

After surgery, Steven woke up on Christmas Day and appeared to be functioning as planned. After a few days, Anne was told that Steven had fluid in his lungs and that one of his lungs had collapsed.

When doctors began to change Steven’s breathing tube, he went into cardiac arrest which left his brain without oxygen. Doctors performed CPR and were able to bring Steven back to life. Due to loss of oxygen to his brain, Steven was placed in a medically induced coma to keep him paralyzed to receive medication, that would help him recover.

Steven was placed in a roto prone bed where he lies face down for 4 hours at a time and 1 hour on his back to help oxygen get into his lungs, this will also help the lung that has collapsed. At this time, Steven is listed to be in critical condition and stills relys on a ventilator because he is not able to breathe on his own.

As many of you know, Anne is a former Police Officer with the Cleveland Police Department, and is currently employed as a K-9 Police Officer with Cuyahoga Community College for the past 14 years. For anyone who knows Anne, she is a selfless person who will do anything for anyone, and is always going the extra mile to help someone in need.

Anne and her 14-year-old son Matthew have deep faith in God and are constantly praying for their husband and father. They will do whatever they can to help Steven achieve the highest quality of life possible. Obviously, Steven is unable to work, and Anne is taking time off to be by her husband’s side during his recovery.

As a Cuyahoga Community College family member and fellow officer, I am asking for contributions to help make Anne and her family’s life less stressful. If you can’t give a cash donation, please keep Anne and her family in your thoughts and prayers as these coming days/months will be trying for them.

If anyone would like to send cards, gift cards or private donations for Steven please contact me for details.
