Steven is a hard working, vivacious, industrious 24 year old young man who's world has been turned upside down by Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma. He is in the National Guard, has earned his LPN degree and is working towards becoming a Military Officer and earning an RN degree.
In February 2015, Steven found a lump on his right hip area and went to the Dr several times to no avail. Months went by and the site became uncomfortable with redness and heat. The Dr ordered some tests, including an ultrasound and biopsy. The tests were sent off to several Drs. but a diagnosis was still unobtainable until it was sent to a Dr at Harvard Medical School. Shortly there after, the site became very painful and the tumor was surgically removed, measuring in at 7.5cm.
He was sent to MD Anderson in Houston Tx and on November 19th several more tests were ran (CT, MRI and blood work), and then on the 20th he got to see the Pathologist who told him that the cancer was dividing and extremely agressive with a multplication rate of 27 cells per sample. Sarcoma tends to travel to the lungs and he already has nodules that were revealed by the CT scan that may or may not be related.
On November 23rd, Steven saw his Oncologist who recommended high doses of Chemotherapy(to hopefully kill any cancer cells that may have traveled), radiation and radical surgery which will remove a large portion of his right hip muscle. On December 10th 2015, Steven will begin a 18 week regiment of chemo 3-4 times a week, 5.5 weeks of radiation, and then surgery followed by re-constructive surgery all with 3-4 week breaks between treatments.
If you do the math, this is about a 9 month process in which he will be unable to work and support himself. Though he has good military insurance, he will still have Dr bills, bills and every day living expenses that he will be unable to meet without our help.
ANY and ALL prayers, thoughts, notes and financial blessings are greatly appreciated--thank you and God bless!
