SECOND CHANCES -- MIRACLES HAPPEN
On January 15, 2015, Steven underwent major surgery of a double lung transplant.
On March 17th, Steve underwent a second surgery to repair/stimulate his diaphragm.
STEVE'S STORY
While Steve appeared healthy and full of life, he was secretly suffering to breathe. Over the years, his lungs had deteriorated which had affected the rest of his health -- and there wasn't much time left.
After numerous medical tests, doctors' visits, and emergency counsel, he made the decision to keep moving.
In early January, Steve finally qualified for the lung transplant list. He was told it could take years to find a suitable donor.
But, just 4 Days Later..... HE GOT THE CALL!! That's when his miracle happened, a donor with the possibility of a perfect match was available for his much needed double lung transplant.
A gift of life had been graciously given by another, and we are grateful to that donor and our sincere condolences to their family.
After a 14+ hour procedure, Steve has a new pair lungs, but the road to recovery continues to be slow, painful, and surprisingly expensive.
Please consider a donation to this kind, caring, loving, and hard working grandpa and his family -- to help pay his medical bills -- and not go further into debt.
Any donation is greatly appreciated - no gift is too small. If you are unable to donate at this time, please share this page with your friends and family.
Thank you in advance!

COSTS
The cost of a transplant, including preliminary testing, the surgery itself and post-operative recovery costs vary across the country and depend on the hospital and organ type. These costs start to add up, even before your transplant. Therefore, patients commonly rely on several sources to help pay for their medical and non-medical costs of pre- and post-transplantation.
MEDICAL COSTS
Medical costs include:
* insurance deductibles
* insurance co-pays
* pre-transplant evaluation and testing
* surgery
* fees for the recovery of the organ from the donor
* follow-up care and testing
* additional hospital stays for complications
* fees for surgeons, physicians, radiologist, anesthesiologist and recurrent lab testing
* anti-rejection and other drugs, which can easily exceed $2,500 per month rehabilitation
NON-MEDICAL COSTS
Non-medical costs include:
* food, lodging and long distance phone calls for you and your family
* transportation, to and from your transplant center, before and after your transplant (bridge tolls and gas)
* lost wages if your employer does not pay for the time you or a family member spends away from work
* lodging for Steve and family after surgery and disharge of hospital (12+ weeks and must stay within 45 minutes of the hospital-- in case of rejection)
BACKGROUND
* Born in Koloa, on the Island of Kauai, Hawaii
* Graduate of Tennyson High School, Hayward, California
* U.S. Army Veteran of the Viet Nam War (1967-1969)
* Loving Father (5) and Grandfather (20+), Brother & Cousin to amazing family
* Dedicated Harley-Davidson Rider
* Hardworking, all-American "Dude"
* Enjoys all outdoor activities including fishing, camping, and landscaping.
