Hello friends, allies and comrades,
I am writing to ask that you help me visit the socialist island of Cuba this spring to attend an international gathering of organizers and activists from around the world. The cost of the trip will be $3,000, and I need to raise $2,400 pretty quickly. Every little bit that you can share will help.
I will be traveling with a delegation of more than thirty activists from the United States from April 25 to May 3. I hope to learn about the struggles that everyday people around the world are waging for peace and justice and to strategize with folks from the U.S. on how we can strengthen our efforts to build movements capable of building a better world in spite of the mounting challenges.
While there, I’ll have the opportunity to march in the streets of Havana with millions of Cubans to celebrate May Day. It also looks like I will get the chance to meet two of my favorite writers— Marta Harnecker and Michael Lebowitz— who will also be there.
The shift in diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba raises important questions about how the Cuba will defend the important advances that they were able to make since 1959. As you well know, the Cuban Revolution has shaped much of my faith that we can build a future rooted in justice and solidarity. If you help make it possible for me to make this trip, I promise to share what I see and what new ideas are sparked.
