                                Wait, wait for me,
Let me comfort you one more time,
Let me wipe your tears and make you smile.

                                Wait, please wait for me,
                                Don’t go so hastily,
I love you so much it hurts that badly,
I can’t stop that you are in heaven now,
I don’t care cause I want you back so tell me how?

Everything I touch I think about you,
Everywhere I go I wanna take you,
Let me know what you want,
Let me dry your tears once more.

Let me know when my time will come,
When I can see my baby fine,
Where there is no sorrow and tears,
Where angels play harps and lyres… …

So you see that ray of sunshine?
                                Brighter and brighter,
When I meet my baby at last at heaven mine,
Wipe my tears with your heavenly smile.

Steve H. Xu (formerly Steve Wang) passed away on March 18th, 2019. He just passed his seventeenth birthday. He will be forever that young, forever 17.

He will never be eighteen, he will never graduate from high school, he will never go learn driving, he will never go to college, he will never have a job, he will never have a girlfriend, he will never have a family, he will never have a kid, let alone grand kids. He will never call me Mom again, he will never go get tissues when his mom is in tears again, he will never give me food and drinks when I am sick again, he will never eat the food I cook again, he will never play clarinet again, he will never go grocery shopping with me again, he will never go to school again, he will never listen to “The Beatles” again, he will never play soccer again, he will never play basketball again, he will never sing again, he will never watch Steven Spielberg again, he will never go to any competitions again, he will never ask me when I will take him and leave this house and Dad again. He will never, never do any of these things again… …

Steve was a very considerate, caring, calm and mature young man. He knew what he wanted, was well-planned and organized and he had interest and knowledge in a wide variety of areas, from competitive math and physics, to history, music, and movies, he devoured anything that he became interested in. Out of the six courses he chose this school year and all of them AP courses, there were two history courses, one AP European History, one AP US History. He loved history, especially Civil War era and WWII. He also registered for Human Geography AP test for a second time, because he wanted to see how much he remembered. Last Thanksgiving holiday I took him to Alamo a second time, to go through that special Texas historical moment.

He was an avid fan of The Beatles, he knew so many their songs, he would sing and sing in showers, from “Let It Be”, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, “Hey, Jude”, to “Yesterday”, “Penny Lane”, “I Want to Hold Your Hand”, “Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band “, “Eleanor Rigby”, “All My Loving”. Just a few songs he knew by heart. He played clarinet and was twice placed in all region band when he was in middle school. He stopped playing in band in high school in order to focus on math and physics competitions.

He was a math whiz kid, moving on to AIME for the third time in a row, trying to go to USAMO this year. He also was the only one who moved on to USAPHO this year from Allen High after taking F=ma exam this January. He taught himself physics and bugged his physics teacher Mr. Wells whenever he had a problem. He told his dad he taught himself. He loved to solve all the hard problems in math and physics and enjoy the challenge they brought.

Of the 100 top movies from API’s 100 years list, he watched majority of them. He went to the library and checked out every one he could get his hands on and watched them multiple times. From “Lawrence of Arabia” to “Duck Soup”, from “God Father” to “The Lord of Rings”, from “Vertigo” to “Casablanca”, from “Taxi Driver” to “A Streetcar Named Desire”, from “Bonnie And Clyde” to “It’s A Wonderful Life”… … His favorite is “God Father” while mine is “The Shawshank Redemption”, and it was because of him that I discovered Shawnshank. He would tell me why the initial warfighting scene was necessary in “Saving Private Ryan” and why he loved Tom Hanks’s “Forrest Gump” and “Apollo 13”.

Steve’s teachers are proud of him just like his own mom. He loved to help others in need, because it made him feel good trying to help others. He coordinated his classmates to give his history teacher letters and gifts when he heard that she had cancer.

Wait for me my dear baby. I am waiting for that day, the day I will join you in heaven fine, where there is no sorrow and grief, where there is only sunshine and happiness, where you may wipe my tears with your forgiveness and heavenly smile. Oh my baby, please wait for me - by Jennifer Xu
