Steve Summers Dog Teddy Needs Help IVDD surgery

 
Hello everyone this is Steve Summers the vocalist of the band Pretty Boy Floyd and my wife Delphine. 
 
-Yesterday Saturday, August 3 we woke late and quickly realized that our little man who was fine the previous day couldn’t walk anymore on his back legs. ( this was about 1pm ) 

We then called our main vet and rushed him over ASAP, our vet Quickly assessed the problem and advised us to immediately rush to the closet Emergency Pet Hospital for Teddy to be able to receive the proper diagnosis through blood work, imaging and MRI to find out if Teddy needed surgery. 

Later in the day the Neurologist Vet on call called us with an update announcing that Teddy indeed needed “ Emergency Surgery “. 

The Vet explained to us that Teddy had a condition called “ IVDD “ which can be quite common in Dachshunds and few other breeds. IVDD is something that affect the dog spine, it happens when the disc become hard / calcified and eventually start pushing on the spinal cord causing pains and or paralysis. 

Later in the day Teddy finally went trough surgery which lasted about 4 hours, the Vet eventually called us around 1am to let us know that Teddy made it through surgery and was recovering from anesthesia. 

( needless to say “ we did not sleep well all night “ )
 
Today Sunday August 4, We were allowed to visit with him for a little while but sadly we won’t be able to bring him home before a few more days as he needs to recover and be monitored by docteurs.
 
The prognosis is a 50/50 % chance that he will walk again. Today he still wasn’t reacting on his back legs. But we hope and pray he will make a successful recovery, we love him so much that no words can express... we got him he was only 6 months old and he is now almost 8 years old, this little fella is the joy of our days. Please send good thoughts and of course we would appreciate any financial help as the bill came up to over $11 000. We always took care of all of our vet bills, but as of today we have drained all of our savings spending close to $40 000 in vet bills in the past and let me tell you we have no regrets, we would do anything we can to keep our baby healthy and living the good life.
