Thirteen years ago, I met Kate and Steve, and from that very first moment, they became more than friends — they became family. They quickly became a huge part of both my life and Aurora’s. Over time, Steve also grew to be my husband Scott’s very best friend. The bond we all shared is something I will cherish forever.

When I first met Steve, he had already been a quadriplegic for many years. But that was never the most important thing about him. What he could or couldn’t do physically was so small compared to the wisdom, kindness, and strength he carried with him every single day. Steve had a way of teaching us lessons without ever needing to say much — lessons about patience, gratitude, resilience, and above all, love.

For 25 years, Kate devoted herself to caring for Steve. She lived every day with him through the struggles and the triumphs, showing the purest form of loyalty and love. They were married for 30 years — a true example of what it means to stand beside someone through it all. Their love story was not just beautiful, but inspiring.

On September 5th, 2025, we lost Steve. And with that loss, the world lost a remarkable soul. His absence is deeply felt by everyone who knew him, and for those of us closest to him, the hole in our lives feels impossible to put into words.

At this time, I am reaching out with humility to ask for any support you may be able to offer. Finances are extremely tight right now, and there are many costs and preparations for Steve and for the family as we try to give him the farewell he deserves. Any contribution — no matter the size — will make a difference and will be received with the deepest gratitude.

Steve was so much more to me than a friend — he was a brother, a mentor, a best friend, and a cherished Nuno. His memory will live on in all of us, in the love we continue to share, and in the lessons he taught that will never fade.
