Steve Moulds Legacy Project - Orocuina, Honduras

In 1964 Steve Moulds was sent by the Peace Corps to this small village in the south of Honduras to assist in Rural Community Development. In two years he had a lasting impact, but the impact on him was even greater. In 1998, Hurricane Mitch devastated the country and Orocuina was directly impacted by massive flooding. Steve & Betsy together launched a recovery effort to rebuild homes, distribute food, jumpstart the economy and assist a community badly tattered.
In continuation of that effort, Reed & Hayden in turn, spent time after college working on a variety of initiatives to rebuild aspects of life throughout the area. The insights that experience yielded have been invaluable. The community embraced the Moulds family and those strong ties remain today.
The final project Steve & Betsy have been working on is the construction of a soccer stadium to encourage and inspire the youth of Orocuina, to bring visitors and economic stimulus to the town, to engender a sense of pride and to provide a place for the community to gather. Initial construction of the field and northern grandstand was completed in fall 2017. Since then, the field has been home to Club Deportiva Marathon del Sur and the town has thrived.
Plans for the final phase, including additional seating and space for local food vendors on the south side of the field, are underway. If you would like to aid in the completion of the stadium, bringing Steve's legacy to fruition, please consider donating. Muchisimas gracias por todo!
