Steve McElyea, 63, the loving and adoring husband and proud father of two incredible sons passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 5, 2024.
Steve and his wife, Lisa, moved to Ft. Myers ten years ago from Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Steve and Lisa had been married 41 years. The two met in their home state of Texas on a blind date in Dallas. They settled in Arlington, Texas where they started their family.
Steve was a father figure growing up to his sons’ friends who did not have fathers or father figures. He never missed a boy’s soccer game.
When Steve was asked where he and Lisa were from, the forever Parrothead would say, “The trifecta…Texas, Colorado and Florida.” He could make anyone laugh with his sense of humor and love of the little things in life-cats waiting at a window, guessing a song from the first few chords and knowing the right amount of cream for Lisa’s coffee.
Lisa is the first face you will meet when you walk through the door at Heights Elementary IB World School in Fort Myers. A smiling face at the front desk. There really is not a job description that could possibly explain Lisa’s incredible role. She lifts you up, creates the most amazing and welcoming spaces, she encourages a young saxophonist to play Friday Jazz in the front office as students are walking out for the weekend, she brings out the best in people. Lisa is loving, selfless, and would do everything she could for anyone in need.
It’s our turn to be there for Lisa and her family. Please donate if you can. Steve and Lisa were excited to furnish the home they just moved into and purchase a car, but now the family finds themselves learning how to prepare for the days ahead without their beloved husband and dad.
