Late Sunday afternoon, November 10, 2019, Steve was picking up his son from his ex-wife and collapsed. The quick actions of his ex-wife, son, police and EMS saved his life. It took 20 minutes for those working on him to get a heart beat at which time he was transported to the hospital. Once Steve arrived, he was admitted and accessed and we were told he had a couple cracked ribs from the compressions, a partially collapsed lung, pneumonia and they would not know the damage to his brain for at least 72 hours. Steve was placed in a medically induced coma and his body temperature was lowered to give him the best shot at recovering brain activity. Steve was labeled critical in ICU.
Tuesday morning, 36 hours into this 72 hour procedure, Steve woke up and began to communicate. As grateful as we are that he is awake he has a long recovery road ahead.
Like most of us, we never think this will ever happen. If Steve doesn't work he doesn't get paid, he does not have Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, he has no vacation days or personal days yet the household bills, child support and living expenses continue. These will now be compounded by medical expenses. Steve has insurance but not sure the amount which will be covered and we all know copays and extended stays and services add up quickly.
It's friends helping friends that gets us through unimaginable times, Sunday was an unimaginable day!
Time is of the essence and there is no donation too small.
Thank you on behalf of our family and Steve's son Carson for helping him at a critical time.
Much love,
Janette aka little sis
