Hi my name is Charlene (one of 3 Daughters) to the man myself and my two sisters Genelle and Lindsey call our hero. As many of you will already know,
Thursday 15th February our Dad suffered what was described by the hospital as a catastrophic stroke. Scans revealed the whole right side of our Dads brain was severely damaged causing him to be paralysed down his left side. After being told this already heartbreaking news, we were also told that Dad had major swelling on his brain which was applying pressure to the left side of his brain. We were told if Dad didn’t have emergency brain surgery he would die. This operation was time critical and needed to be done at Queens Medical Centre as that is where the Neurosurgeons are. Dad was prepped for surgery at Kings Mill Hospital, put to sleep and transferred to QMC where the theatre and surgeons where waiting for him. We spent hours waiting for him Dad to come out of theatre where he was placed in intensive care. He was put into an induced coma and on a ventilator to allow his body to rest. In the operation a large piece of our Dads skull had to be permanently removed to allow room for the swelling on his brain.
Dad is slowly starting to show small positive steps to waking up and trying to communicate with us. We as a family believe he will fight this with every ounce of strength he has in his body.
We are trying to raise funds to help with all aspects of Dads recovery from travel expenses for my Mum to visit him everyday whilst in hospital as she doesn’t drive to what care and support he’s going to need when he’s finally allowed home and the adaptions needed to the house to make his life as easy and bearable as possible.
Any donation no matter how small would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your support.
