Steve/Carolyn Magnus Emergency Medical Needs

Blessings to all who read this.
As most of you have probably heard by now, our dear friend Steve Magnus is fighting an all to familiar foe;
LUNG CANCER THAT HAS TRAVELED TO HIS BRAIN.
Steve is a man with a lion's heart of courage, kindness and generosity. He is the type that has ALWAYS been there for others in need. Always the first to offer help. Whether it be for sharing the Word of God (one of his favorite things to do) teaching, building, caring, sharing, or just simply comforting people with his presence.
For several decades Steve and his wife Carolyn have served their family of three children; Ezra, (married to Megan) Rivkah and Sarah, their community, congregation, various food distribution centers, and Hearts Teaching Co-op, (where Steve taught science and chemistry to children)
NOW, STEVE AND CAROLYN NEED OUR HELP!
Steve has battled lung cancer now for over two years but several months ago the cancer spread to his brain. He and Carolyn have spent what feels like endless days and nights in various hospitals, doctors offices, CT scan machines, MRI machines, surgical suites, and chemo rooms, etc. The kids have tag-teamed as much as they could with their own jobs and school and Sarah living California. Carolyn, the amazing wife that she is, has nursed Steve when he is at home, made him healthy meals and must be a full-time nurse which she is more than happy to do. Not once have I heard her complain.
I WONT EVEN GET STARTED ON THE INSURANCE COMPANIES and that whole mess, but I probably don't have to tell most of you that the medical bills for several lung and brain surgeries are quite staggering!
Many of us have watched these two amazing people and their family walk through this entire ordeal with the utmost grace. Steve and Carolyn have always remained faithful to their calling, their family and friends, and God. Steve worries for her and of course, Carolyn worries for him. Watching them has personally ministered to me the same PEACE that only God can give to them!
Throughout the past two years it has been quite a rollercoaster! A different symptom every day. Just when they thought they were on the upswing, something else would happen. We would ask Carolyn, "So what now? What is the next step? Carolyn would ALWAYS reply the following:
"When Steve and I pray, we ask God to open the doors He would want to open and to close the doors that He wanted closed".
The most recent update is that Steve has been having seizures. Quite scary. Carolyn took Steve to the hospital last Thursday and on Friday, November 30, this is the note that we received from Carolyn.
"The doctor has said, "No more treatments." The cancer is spreading quickly, despite ALL efforts made. The doctor sent us home with advice to inquire about a hospice group to help us. Medications given have been doubled to keep seizures from occurring. I am quite concerned about this. We will have a family meeting that works with hospice in our area. I will need their help. Kids will be helping with details over the next couple of weeks, they are so great. I cannot leave Steve unattended now as he will be developing motor/cognitive issues - some small things already evident!
The doctor gave Steve 4-6 weeks.
We know WHO numbers our days!
With all of this said, PLEASE consider helping us financially and in prayer. There are many needs and expenses to include but not limited to:
- Home care nurse so that Carolyn can sleep (Hospice does not cover this.)
- Many of the surgeries, MRI'S, CT scans, Radiation, and Chemo are not fully covered under insurance.
- Insurance co-pays, bills
- Food
- Numerous medications
- Housekeeping
- All of the regular living expenses because neither Steve or Carolyn can work at this time.
I can't think of a better way to end this request than with Steve and Carolyn's prayer!
Please Lord, continue to open the doors that You want open and close the doors You want to closed, just as You have done all along. In Yeshua's (Jesus) Name! Amen
