Steve's Burial Fund

Hi, my name is Dave Downs.

I am writing this on Behalf of My brother Steve J Downs.

He passed away in Hospice on Saturday, August 31st,  from complications of Bladder Cancer.

Steve was a Veteran, serving 6 years in the U. S. Coast Guard.
Many of you know Steve from Lee High school, in Jacksonville, FL in the graduating class of ’74.
 
I miss him terribly already.  Steve was one of the funniest people I have ever met in my life.

Steve lost his fight with this disease after a year & a half struggle of treatments.  He was in excruciating pain when he passed and is now in a better place & pain-free.

Steve was treated extremely well by the Veterans Administration in his waning years for myriad of  health problems. 

Steve will receive a burial plot in the National Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL from the government for his Service.  
His funeral expenses are NOT covered by the VA.   Steve died with only a disability check every month to pay bills. The bank has locked this account, due to the death certificate being assigned to his social security number.

My 86 year-old Mother, Grace now has to take out a loan to pay for all the expenses occurring with the funeral home. 

We are looking, with your help, to raise funds to cover the costs of the funeral/ burial services.
