Steve and Linda Fuller Fire Relief

Donation protected
Steve Fuller and his wife Linda are very lucky to have escaped this fire alive! Approximately 9:00pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 they had just finished their evening prayers and were about to go to sleep when my dad, Steve, heard a "pop" sound.  He jumped out of bed to investigate the noise and as he approached the door from his room to the living room, the fire alarms began to go off.  He then proceeded to the front door and when he opened it, a rush of flames and smoke entered the house from the front porch. He was lucky to only be slightly singed and not seriously burnt. He immediately hollered at Linda to get out of the house. The flames moved so quickly, that in the time it took her to remove her CPAP machine and get into the living room where he was, the smoke was too thick and she couldn't find him or the side exit. She turned around and went back to the bedroom to escape through the window. My dad successfully got out of the side door but slipped and fell, injuring his hip. Linda managed to get the window open just enough to squeeze through and then falling several feet to the ground safely, however badly bruised and scraped.  They had 2 cats that did not make it and a dog, Sara, who did manage to find them hours later, soothing their fears that she had been trapped under the porch.
They escaped the house only with what they had on, unfortunately for my dad (and all that had to witness it) that meant only a t-shirt and socks, luckily Linda was wearing pajamas.  Their cellphones and car keys were on the porch where the fire started but thankfully they had left their wallet/purse in their vehicle which, thanks to living in the country behind a gate, they didn't have locked.

Some good samaritans passing by saw the flames from the road and dialed 911, and then gave Steve and Linda their jackets to keep warm while they waited for the fire department.  Huntsville, New Waverly and Willis Fire Departments responded to the call and it took several hours to contain and extinguish the fire. When the smoke cleared, they had lost their entire home, the connected garage/workshop and one vehicle that was parked about 50 feet from the front porch.

Steve and Linda own and operate a fertilizer business that specializes in custom liquid applications for ranches and large acreage clients.  They run their business from home and Steve builds, modifies, and maintains all of the vehicles used for spraying in the shop that burned. Aside from the household belongings they also lost every tool in the shop. The tools that he's spent a lifetime collecting, specialized tools from the smallest sockets to survey equipment, various welders and plasma cutters. With the shop and tools gone, his business can not continue.  The trucks always need major maintenance and repairs after most jobs. For now the jobs he has must be put on hold until the shop and tools can be replaced.

A little (admittedly biased) background on my Dad. Steve Fuller spent most of his teenage and adult years owning and running the dairy farm I grew up on.  He is the strongest, hardest working, God fearing, Cowboy you'll ever meet. His reputation, not just in New Waverly, but in the Agriculture community, is nothing short of stellar. He wakes up before the sun every morning and works until he runs out of daylight. Usually the daylight is only a temporary pause and you will then find him in that shop, working on trucks.  He observes the Sabbath every Saturday loyally and he and Linda host fellowship at their home. They have opened their home to to the homeless and hungry more times to count and they have given their clothes off of their back out of love for their fellow man. You won't find a more humble and honest pair of souls than these two.

This past Thanksgiving the whole family was able to get together and enjoy much needed family time on their porch. This year the house and porch looked better than it ever has and I remember everyone commenting on it. Linda and Steve were very proud of their porch and home because they had built it, all of it and they knew that when you set foot in there, you were welcome and you were family. When they bought the property it just had a single wide trailer that needed work. Well, they worked on it for the next 15-20 years. A huge enclosed porch that welcomed all guests and a shop that could hold up giant trucks while he worked on them or in the offseason get the boat and fishing rods tuned up for his grandkids.

Thankfully, they do have insurance, however, the policy they had was nowhere near enough to cover what was lost. Between the upgrades they did to the home and the addition of the shop, not to mention all of the tools and equipment lost, the insurance will provide relief but will not replace half of what was lost.

That is where this GoFundMe comes in to play. They need a few things, quickly so they can get the business back up and going and cover immediate needs until they settle up with insurance and contemplate their comeback story.  They need tools, they need a shop, they need shelter. The nature of the business means they can't live somewhere else, they need to be on the property.  Myself along with my brother, Sam and my sister, Julie are doing all we can to help them through this and we are very grateful that Steve and Linda have a very tight nit and supportive group of friends to help as well.  We have been asked by many on how they can help and my siblings and I believe this is this best way at this time.  This is the holidays and I know that not everyone has extra to give and that's ok. You can share this with your friends in the hopes that one of them can.

Steve and Linda are loyal to their faith and believe 100% that this fire is just another way that God will be able to provide for them and direct them to their next adventure. Their spirits are high, their attitude is positive and even through crisis, they are still praising God and teaching all of us what it means to serve others. Thank you for reading their story.
