Three weeks ago, we had an emergency: Steve’s lump on his throat swelled across his neck and chest, causing extreme pain and mental fog. We now know that he had gone septic, a symptom of an unknown bacterial infection and complications from a swollen lymph node.
Steve was sent to the hospital in Gainesville on Thursday, May 22nd, and spent 8 days, racking up medical bills.
During his stay, he was given IV antibiotics and surgical debridement to remove the necrotic tissue. He now has a large open wound on his neck that needs home care and weekly check-ups.
After the wound heals, he will need to seek treatment for the cause of this emergency: the Squamous Cell Carcinoma, an HPV-induced cancer that is very treatable, thankfully.
Any support is welcome, as through this the family has had to keep struggling to maintain our income stream as small-scale organic farmers. Our family has been feeding our community healthy food for over twenty years. We never make much money doing this. It’s where our hearts are.
So we’re asking our community: our friends, our family to help if you can.
