Hallo, ik ben Louise, een gepassioneerde masterstudent in de laatste fase van mijn opleiding Productontwikkeling. Mijn drijfveer is om mensen te helpen, wat zich in mijn ontwerppraktijk vertaalt naar het ontwikkelen van orthopedische hulpmiddelen met een sociaal inclusieve ontwerpbenadering, waarbij de gebruiker centraal staat. MobyScale is meer dan een afstudeerproject alleen en bedoeld om na mijn studies verder door te ontwikkelen.

Veel jongeren met spieraandoeningen, of andere medische uitdagingen zijn aangewezen op een orthopedische zitschaal voor de juiste ondersteuning. De robuuste en steriele uitstraling van deze orthesen heeft echter een negatieve invloed op hun zelfbeeld en -ontwikkeling, vooral in de cruciale tienerjaren.

MobyScale is ontworpen vanuit het gebruikersperspectief, het introduceert een vernieuwende aanpak door zelfstandigheid, aanpasbaarheid en modulariteit centraal te stellen. Het modulair en aanpasbaar ontwerp biedt jongeren de vrijheid om hun orthese af te stemmen op verschillende settings, waardoor zelfexpressie en eigenheid maximaal worden ondersteund. Door de gelaagdheid vermindert MobyScale productstigmatisatie en bevordert het sociale participatie, zowel in de klas als daarbuiten, wat het welzijn van jonge gebruikers positief beïnvloedt.

MobyScale is het resultaat van een tweejarig masteronderzoek. De volgende stap is het ontwikkelen van een functioneel prototype, waarmee testings kunnen worden uitgevoerd en verdere optimalisaties mogelijk zijn. Om deze productoplossing tastbaar en functioneel te maken heb ik jouw steun nodig. Met jouw hulp kan dit project groeien en écht verschil maken voor zij die het nodig hebben.

MobyScale is more than just a graduation project, it’s a vision I intend to develop further beyond my studies.

Many young people with muscle disorders or other medical challenges rely on an orthopedic seating shell for proper support. However, the robust and sterile appearance of these orthoses negatively impacts their self-image and development, especially during the crucial teenage years.

MobyScale is designed from the user's perspective and introduces an innovative approach by prioritizing independence, adaptability, and modularity. Its modular and adjustable design allows young users to tailor their orthosis to different settings, maximizing support for self-expression and individuality. The layered approach reduces product stigmatization and enhances social participation, both in the classroom and beyond, positively influencing the well-being of young users.

MobyScale is the result of a two-year master’s research project. The next step is to develop a functional prototype for testing and further optimization.
