Stepping Stones for Jonah

Hi,

This very handsome gentleman is my nephew Jonah Moxley. The family was to come and spend the weekend with us last weekend, but had to cancel last Friday (8-6-2021) because one of the children was not feeling well. Jonah is the middle child of 5 and is 10 years old. After his trip to the doctor on Friday, we received a message from my sister-in-law Jenny. The family was headed to Lincoln (from Kearney) to drop the other 4 kids off with Grandma Betty because Jonah was having a health emergency and was being rushed to Children's Hospital in Omaha. It didn't take long before the doctors realized that Jonah had fluid around his heart as well as his lungs. By Saturday he was in surgery to do a pericardiocentesis (drain fluid around his heart). The doctors drained about 10 ounces of fluid that was bloody and indicated inflammation or malignancy. By Sunday Jonah had been diagnosed with cancer.

His official diagnosis is Acute Lymphoblastic  Leukemia. Chemotherapy needed to start right away so a port was places as well as a spinal tap and a bone marrow test. And Chemo began. Yesterday (Wed) afternoon Jenny received more bad news. The fluid from around Jonah's heart was positive for a staph infection. The doctors started him on antibiotics right away. Now we are praying that he will not lose the port that was just put in. In addition to that news, he has a lumbar puncture that was positive for cancer as well.

Mike (Jonah's dad) and his siblings, Maya, Madi, EJ, and Jack are back in Kearney so they can start school. Mike is a professor at UNK so he needed to start school as well. Jenny and Jonah will remain in Omaha for a minimum of 30 days. At that point a new plan will be made to continue to provide Jonah the treatment that he will need.

Having all of this happen so quickly and not being able to have the family all together in one place will of course take its toll. Jonah has a long long road ahead, but he is a tough guy with A LOT of courage.

I am asking for help for this AMAZING family. If you feel inclined to donate to the Moxley's medical bills, housing, food, and other expenses, PLEASE PLEASE DO SO.

We will also take ALL THE PRAYERS we can get.
