“Stepping into the New Paradigm” is a film following two queer women of color artists as they road trip across the United States, from Oakland, California to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Seeking to capture this uniquely 2020 story of exodus, connection and rebirth, this film project will document a journey deeply grounded in spirit and the desire to co-create a new paradigm.
Who are we?
We are two queer women of color who have been thriving in the Bay Area as artists and community organizers.

What is The Chrysalis Space?
In 2019 we founded The Chrysalis Space - a community organization which was a manifestation of years of weaving dreams to offer a container for artists in the Bay Area, specifically women of color artists. This was a space for personal cultivation, community building & co-creation across disciplines.
In the Fall we began hosting gatherings called The Kaleidoscope Series (TKS) - a monthly pop-up event for women/femmes of color in Oakland. In a short period of time, we found ourselves building the world we wanted to be a part of, collaborating with incredible creatives & healers and offering much needed space for nourishment, connection & sisterhood.

In March of this year, we were just a week away from our last event when the Covid-19 quarantine sent the Bay Area into full lockdown. Nearly overnight everything changed for us and The Chrysalis Space. In what felt like an instant, so many of the wonderful things about the Bay Area and our ability to be together in community vanished. Though we were more sure of our mission/vision than ever, we knew we’d have to re-evaluate.
The Story of this Journey
When the lockdown extended indefinitely, we had the opportunity to visit family in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We both fell in love with the land and immediately felt drawn to a new sense of possibility in a new place.
We experienced somatically that being able to just be & create on the land was extremely healing and necessary for this collective present moment.

Our time in the South opened up the possibility of actually building the artist retreat space we'd been working towards in Oakland. Upon our return, we were met with an even greater urgency to continue working towards this dream - so we began looking at land, making plans for our move, and decided to make this film and travel blog: “Stepping into the New Paradigm," which will follow us in real time as we lean into this great unknown.
This film and this quest will be a meditation on finding our place as leaders, community members, and culture makers. We invite you to join us as we continue to experience the world through film and heal through our art.
We don’t have all the answers, but we want to share our journey.
