At just 27 years old, our beloved sister & friend, Steph, has been diagnosed with stage 4 hodkins lymphoma. She has recently begun the most aggressive form of chemotherapy in hope of beating this devastating disease.
While she is facing this battle with incredible courage & determination, the physical & emotional challenges ahead are immense.
Most importantly, she is a loving mother to her beautiful 2 year old daughter, Lexi-mae, who is her entire world, as well as step mum to 3 others with her now fiancé, Kyle. As treatment progresses, she is expected to lose her hair-a heart breaking & visible reminder of the fight she is facing everyday. To help her maintain a sense of confidence, dignity, & normality during this difficult time, we are hoping to raise funds for a high-quality real hair wig.
Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly towards helping her through this journey. Should we raise more money than is needed for the wig, any remaining funds will be donated to a hodkins lymphoma charity to help support others facing the same battle.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, generosity, & suppose. Whether you donate or simply share this page, you are helping to remind Steph that she is not facing this fight alone.
All our love
Sam, Selina, Calli, Lauren & Abbie xxxxx
In just a short 6 weeks Steph’s life would change forever, but with all of our help & support she WILL beat this!!!!
It all started with a tiny lump on her hairline, which she went to the GP with, he told her, it was just a normal lymph node, & if it hadn’t gone down on 2 weeks to go back. He also noticed , when examining her she had a few lymph nodes up in her neck, however Steph hadn’t even felt these. He decided to order a blood test, for a full blood count the next day.
The night of the blood test, Steph had an out of hours call from the doctors, telling her she needed to go straight down to the hospital, as her blood levels were dangerously low. This didn’t really panic Steph too much, she didn’t feel unwell, she’s always been anemic, & taken iron tablets, so thought it must be connected.
The hospital doctors couldn’t believe she was even standing, let alone not feeling unwell. They asked if she’d felt tired at all, but of course, being a mum to a young daughter & supporting 3 other children, as well as working unsociable hours (she was getting up at 3am) then coming home to be a full time mum & run the household, being tired was a normal “mum thing”.
Steph was admitted into hospital & given a blood transfusion, however this still didn’t bring her levels up, so it was another blood transfusion followed by an iron transfusion. After these, things started looking up, her bloods went back to normal, but as the lymph nodes in the neck were still there & slightly more noticeable, the doctor wanted these checked with an ultrasound. He also decided for an ultrasound on her stomach to see if there were any lymph nodes up in there. The lymph nodes in her neck looked normal, however they decided on a biopsy to be sure. The stomach scan did show more lymph nodes up in there, as well as her spleen being very inflamed. This was when the shock of what it could be came. Doctors told Steph, it could be lymphoma & further tests would be required through hematology.
Haematology did more blood tests, resulting in yet more blood transfusions. They decided they wanted to check if it could be celiac disease, a transnasal endoscopy was preformed, it was negative!
Things seemed to be getting more serious, CT scans were planned, a bone marrow biopsy, as well as the neck lymph nodes, & all while this was happening Steph was in & out having numerous blood transfusions.
The bone marrow biopsy was done first, & on the day of the neck lymph node biopsy, Steph also saw the consultant, who told her they’d found another lymph node up, near her lung & that the bone marrow results were back!! They confirmed Steph had stage 4 hodkins lymphoma, her world fell apart, this was not the news any of us expected, devastated was an understatement!! However with the most aggressive form of chemotherapy this can be cured. Due to the highest dose of chemotherapy unfortunately Steph will lose her hair as well as possibly becoming infertile. As you can imagine this news is devastating for anyone & so much to take in.
Fast forward to now & this is the first week of chemotherapy. We really would love to be able to make Steph feel more like Steph, by raising funds to purchase her a high-quality real hair wig & also possibly help others going on the same journey.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read Steph’s story so far, there WILL be much more to come!!!!
